Conveyor and Vanta questionnaire automation: alternatives for small teams

By The Citesheet team · Published

Short answer

Conveyor and Vanta both offer AI questionnaire automation built on a knowledge base of your past answers and documents, with portal support and cited answers. As of 2026-10-20, neither lists a price for questionnaire automation: Conveyor's free plan excludes it, and Vanta sells it standalone or as an add-on, in tiers of 144 or 288 questionnaires a year. Small teams that answer a few Excel questionnaires a year may prefer a lighter option: a pay-per-questionnaire tool, a careful DIY process, or a service like Citesheet that fills the Excel file from your policies.

Conveyor and Vanta are two of the best-known names in security questionnaire automation. They are strong products for companies with a steady flow of security reviews. This page sets out what each says it does, from its own pages, and when a smaller team might want something else. We make Citesheet, one of the alternatives, so weigh our view accordingly.

What Conveyor offers (as of 2026-10-20)

From Conveyor's security questionnaire page:

  • Any format, including portals. "Import any format and let Conveyor AI generate accurate, cited answer (even in portals)." A browser extension "auto-completes portal-based questionnaires."
  • Answers from your knowledge. "ConveyorAI ... only pulls from your approved knowledge," and "every response is cited back to source docs."
  • Review flags. "Confidence scoring flags exactly which answers need human review."
  • Accuracy claim. The page says "95% AI accuracy out of the box." It doesn't explain how that was measured.
  • Wider workflow. Requests can arrive through Slack, a CRM or a ticketing system, and Conveyor also sells a trust center.

Pricing. Conveyor's pricing page lists a free plan for a simple trust center, which excludes questionnaire automation, and an Enterprise plan with custom pricing. It also offers a free trial of its AI.

What Vanta offers (as of 2026-10-20)

From Vanta's Questionnaire Automation page:

  • Formats. Questions can come from portals, spreadsheets, DOCX and PDF files, and you can "Export the questionnaire back into original format."
  • Answers from a knowledge base of your security documentation and previous questionnaires; "Vanta AI generates instant, accurate, and well-cited responses for you to review and approve."
  • Claims. "Vanta AI answers an average of 80% or more of your security questions, automatically," and answers "are accepted up to 95% of the time." The page footnotes these; results depend on what is in your knowledge base.
  • Packaging. "Available as a standalone product or as an add-on to your existing Vanta plan," in two tiers: 144 or 288 questionnaires per year. No price is listed.

Where they fit well

Both are a good fit if you:

  • answer questionnaires every week or month, often in portals
  • want a reusable answer library that improves over time
  • already use, or plan to use, a compliance platform (Vanta) or a trust center (both)
  • have a security or GRC person to own the knowledge base

Why a small team might look elsewhere

If you are a 5–50 person software company answering a handful of Excel questionnaires a year, some of that is more than you need:

  • Pricing is not public for questionnaire automation at either company, and both describe their plans in yearly terms.
  • A knowledge base takes setup. It works best once you have answered many questionnaires. Your first few are where you need help most.
  • No SOC 2 yet? Your answers will include honest Nos and Partiallys. Any tool you use must not turn those into confident Yeses. Check how each one handles missing evidence.

Alternatives to consider

  • A pay-per-questionnaire tool. CiteProof, for example, lists self-serve prices from $30 per questionnaire on its pricing page.
  • A careful DIY process with ChatGPT or Claude and your own policies. It can work if you require quotes and check every one yourself; our ChatGPT guide explains the risks and a safer prompt.
  • Citesheet. You send the Excel questionnaire and your policies; you get the same file back, with a word-for-word quote behind every answer (checked by code) and "No proof found" where your documents don't support one. We have tested it on the CAIQ: on GitLab's 261-question CAIQ, 158 of 163 filled answers matched GitLab's own (benchmark). It is a founder-led pilot: no portal support, no trust center, no answer library yet. First questionnaire free, then pilot pricing.

How to compare any of them

Use one real questionnaire and your real policies, and check:

  1. Every quote. Is the quoted text really in your document, word for word?
  2. The refusals. Where your documents don't cover a question, does the tool say so, or does it write a plausible Yes?
  3. The file. Can you send the result to the buyer as is, in their format?
  4. The total cost for the number of questionnaires you expect this year.
